Who we are
Back to School is made by BobbaGames. This page covers the game and the website at bobbagames.com. If you have a question about your data, write to us through our contact page.
What we keep, and why
Your player
- What
- A random player ID we make for you, the name you play under, the look you pick for your student, and when you first and last played.
- Why
- So you're still the same player after you refresh or come back tomorrow.
- Who sees it
- Other players in your room see your name and your student's look.
Google sign-in only if you choose it
- What
- The ID Google gives your account (it never changes) and your email address, plus when you first and last signed in. We ask Google for your email only: not your name, photo or contacts.
- Why
- So you can get the same player back on another phone or computer.
- Who sees it
- Only you (the game shows "Signed in as …") and us, if you ask for help finding your player. We don't send you emails, don't show your email to other players and don't write it in our logs.
Cup Tournament scores
- What
- Your player name as it was when you finished a run, your points in each game, your total, how many seats the table had, and when you played.
- Why
- The Cup leaderboard.
- Who sees it
- Everyone who looks at the leaderboard sees the names and scores on it. Changing your name later doesn't change old entries.
What happens in a game
- What
- Things like who caught whom, final scores and how much each seat moved. They are recorded by seat number (seat 1, seat 2…), not by name. Cup Tournament records are tied to your Cup score entry.
- Why
- To check the games are fair and fun, and fix them when they aren't.
- Who sees it
- Only us.
Messages you send us
- What
- The name, email address, topic and message you type into the contact form, and when you sent it.
- Why
- To read and answer your message, and to limit spam.
- Who sees it
- Only us.
Server logs
- What
- Like almost every website, our server logs technical details about each visit, such as the time, the page asked for and the network (IP) address it came from. Game logs use your player ID, never your email.
- Why
- To keep the game running, find bugs and stop abuse.
- Who sees it
- Only us.
What's saved on your device
The game saves a few things in your browser's storage, on your own phone or computer:
- Your sign-in key, so you don't start over on every visit. Anyone who has this key can play as you, so don't share it.
- Your language.
- While you sign in with Google, which room you were heading to, so you land back in it.
We don't use cookies for ads or tracking. The only cookie we set is a short one while you sign in with Google, so Google's answer comes back to the same browser. It is removed when sign-in finishes.
Clearing your browser's data for this site removes all of this. If you play as a guest, that also means the game can't find your old player again, and you start as a new one.
Who else handles it
We don't sell or rent your data to anyone. A few companies help us run the game:
- DigitalOcean runs our server, in Singapore. The data on this page is stored there.
- Cloudflare delivers the website to your browser, so your visits pass through its network.
- Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google. Google's own privacy policy covers your Google account.
Students and guest mode
Lots of our players are at school. You never have to give us personal information to play. Guest mode needs no email, no real name and no password. We make up a player name for you. If you change it, please don't use your full real name, because other players can see it.
Google decides whether a child's Google account is allowed to sign in to games like ours. If it isn't, guest mode works just the same. If you're under 18, please check with a parent or guardian before you sign in with Google.
How long we keep it
- Your player, if you signed in with Google: until you ask us to delete it. It's your progress, and you can come back to it from any phone or computer.
- Your player, if you play as a guest: deleted 6 months after your last visit. A guest can only get back in from the browser they played on, and that stops working after a while away, so an old guest player is no use to anyone.
- Cup Tournament scores: kept as the leaderboard's history. Ask us if you want your entries taken off.
- What happens in a game: kept. It's recorded by seat number, not by name.
- Messages you send us: deleted 12 months after we receive them.
- Server logs: kept for about 14 days.
If you ask us to delete something sooner, we will. See below.
Seeing, fixing or deleting your data
You can ask us to tell you what we keep about you, to correct it, or to delete it. There's no delete button in the game yet, so we do it by hand:
- Go to the contact page and choose "Privacy or my data".
- Tell us your player name and, if you sign in with Google, the email address you use.
- We may ask a question or two to check it's really you before we change or delete anything.
If this page changes
If we change what we keep or why, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
